2019 Pride Events

PRIDE PROM--May 31st at Girls Inc., 500 Main Street from 7-11 pm.  Makeovers, Mini drag show, teen drag contest, karaoke, dancing, and food. Kids under age 13 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.


PRIDE WALK AND RECEPTION--June 1st at 10 am.  Starts at 4th and Iowa Streets. Ends at the Sioux City Public Museum where a reception will be held. We will honor Sioux City's Hidden Heroes at the reception.


CHURCH AND BRUNCH--LGBTQ PRIDE SERVICE--June 2nd at 10 am at the First Unitarian Church, 2508 Jackson Street. 


SIOUX CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOOK CLUB--June 3rd.  The June selection will be "Sex Crime Panic" by Neil Miller. The book is about gay men in Sioux City in the 1950's.

10 am--Perry Creek Branch Library, 2912 Hamilton Blvd.

5 pm--Morningside Branch Library, 4005 Morningside Ave.


SIOUX CITY'S "SEX CRIME PANIC" REVISTED--June 6th at the Sioux City Public Museum at 12:05 pm.  Neil Miller will discuss his book which is an account of the round up of gay men after the brutal murders--crimes police knew the gay men had nothing to do with. Funded by Humanities Iowa.


FROM SIOUX CITY TO STONEWALL--A CONVERSATION WITH NEIL MILLER--June 6th at the Sioux City Public Museum at 5:30 pm.  A reception will follow Mr. Miller's presentation.  Funded by Humanities Iowa.


PRIDE FESTIVAL--June 8th at Chris Larsen Park Shelter on the Waterfront. 11 am-4 pm

More than just a street fair, more than a free picnic!  In addition to a free picnic and a community fair with 30 businesses and non-profits, we will have a day of fun and entertainment for people of all ages. 


     Vocal Activists, a local social justice choir will perform. 

     City Councilwoman Rhonda Capron will present a Proclamation on behalf of the City. 

     Kid's Space with face painting, games and arts and crafts projects.

     Children's Story Time--readings that celebrate the individual worth  of everyone.

     Tai Chi class by Dan Davis, a martial arts instructor from Sioux Falls.


"PRIDE"--DINNER AND A MOVIE--June 9th at 5 pm at the UFCW Hall, 3038 South Lakeport Street, Suite 100.  Based on a true story "Pride" is a movie how striking Welsh miners and the LGBTQ community found common ground. The Northwest Iowa Labor Unions are sponsoring the movie and cookout.


FROM STONEWALL TO SIOUX CITY--HOW THE GAY RIGHTS MOVEMENT HAS IMPACTED OUR COMMUNITY--June 12th at the Sioux City Public Museum. 6 pm.


"TO WONG FOO" AND DRAG QUEEN BINGO--June 14th a t First Unitarian Church, 2508 Jackson Street at 7 pm.  What could be more fun than watching Patrick Swayze in drag? Playing Drag Queen Bingo, too


"SNAPSHOTS"--June 15th at the Betty Strong Encounter Center 2 pm.  This movie examines the impact of a grandmother's secrets on her daughter and granddaughter--each with secrets of their own.  A reception will follow.
